GRENACHE
PLUSH & BOLD
SUSTAINABLE FARMING
WOMAN-MADE
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
AUSTRALIA

  • Winemaker: Garth Cliff and Kristen McGann
  • Farming: Sustainable
  • Variety: Grenache
  • Terroir: Zannino Vineyard. From a dry-grown old bush-vine plot at the base of the Darling Scarp, consisting of gravel and sand over coffee rock. The vines are around 65 years of age. Bush vines really suit grenache in a warm region. The 3-dimensional architecture of the vine creates good bunch spacing and air flow. The canopy is also well spaced and provides a good amount of shade and dappled light to the bunches.
  • Vinification: Hand-harvested on January 21st. Wild ferment with 20% whole bunch. The Zannino vineyard produces delicate but extremely long fruit and a finer tannin profile. Ferments are macerated for around 21 days where tannin integrates and the wines reach a floral/aromatic peak.
  • Aging: They are then pressed to old oak for an eight-month maturation on lees. Only the best barrels make the cut for Vino Volta’s top grenache
  • Tasting Note: From a single vineyard with 65-year-old bush vines, this is one of Australia’s (nay, the world’s!) greatest Grenaches. Make sure you decant for a few hours before serving to unfold layers of red fruit, dried herbs, savory earth, and saline brightness.
