La Comarcal is a small project by two good friends who just happen to be two of eastern Spain’s most talented viticultors: Javi Revert and Victor Marqués.
Located in the mountainous village of Venta del Moro in the Valencia D.O., La Comarcal (“The District”) is a young winery founded in 2017 with the inspiration of making delicious, youthful wines—new expressions based on the old mountain vineyards of native Valencian grape varieties they farm with certified organic viticulture and native yeasts, utilizing only a judicious amount of sulfur. They focus on regenerative agriculture in every aspect of their work. From researching the best locations to replant native varieties to replace the once-dominant international varieties to working with traditional mixed-agriculture farming and planting trees, Javi and Victor are lifelong students of their natural environment with the winemaking experience to make a significant impact in their region. It shows in the energy and transparency of the project, as this winemaking duo is among the most exciting teams to watch in Spain.
Winemakers: Javi Revert and Victor Marqués
Farming: Organic
Varieties: 95% Merseguera / 5% Chardonnay
Soil / Terroir: Vineyards are planted on limestone-rich calcareous clay soil at an altitude of around 600 meters, with a continental climate heavily influenced by the Mediterranean Sea.
Vinification: After a rigorous selection in the vineyard, each varietal is hand-harvested separately and whole bunches are pressed in a pneumatic press. Chardonnay is fermented in used 500L foudres with native yeasts, followed by six months in the same barrels on the fine lees without bâtonnage. Merseguera is fermented with native yeasts and aged in concrete tanks for six months. The two varieties are then blended and rested before a very light filtration, but no fining, before bottling.
Aging: Six months on lees in concrete and oak foudres
Tasting Notes: well-balanced and exotic, with notable texture and energy, a perfect accompaniment to the incredible foods of Valencia.
Vegan.

La Comarcal | Delmoro Blanco | Valencia, Spain | 2020
Friends Javi Revert and Victor Marqués founded Le Comarcal in 2017 with the intention of bringing a youthful, energetic spirit to the very established and traditional viticultural area of Valencia, their native region in Spain. The area has become dominated by international varieties in recent decades, and they are working with a long-term mindset to return the region to its previous natural splendor. Through regenerative, organic farming and replanting of native grape varieties, Javi and Victor are hoping to shift the tides in the mountainous village of Venta del Moro.
While this minimal intervention wine is made with five percent of Chardonnay, a grape vigorously planted during the last thirty years, Javi and Victor leave the remaining 95% to the native white grape Merseguera. Known for its textured body, tropical aromas and flinty finish, Merseguera can produce exotic and aromatic wines, which this 'Delmoro' bottling captures perfectly. Aromas of green guava and key lime capture the warm Valencian sun, while the salty, stony minerality and jasmine floral notes allude to the cooling effects of the high elevations that the calcareous vineyards are planted at. This wine is delightful with a veggie paella, prawns with garlic and paprika, or braised white meats, such as chicken and rabbit. —Simi Grewal
