The SIGAUTs are unassuming but genuinely committed vignerons. Hervé Sigaut and wife Anne took over from Maurice Sigaut in 1990 and made important improvements both in the vineyard work and in the cellar.
Winemaker: Anne & Hervé Sigaut
Farming: Organic with Biodynamic practices
Variety: Pinot Noir
Terroir: Alluvial soil; sand, calcareous-clay. Average vine age of 35 years
Vinification: Hand-harvested, 100% destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, with gentle maceration over three weeks. Grapes are pressed, moved to barrel for aging.
Aging: 15 months in 15% new French oak. Racked by gravity to a tank where they are held for a couple of months to harmonize and clarify naturally before bottling without fining and filtration.
Tasting Note: This aromatic wine is easy to approach. Delicate notes of berries immediately emerge once the wine is poured into a glass. A light touch of dry fruits brings further complexity. The first taste is tonic while the tannins are well defined until the spicy finale.
