Precedent 'Spenker Ranch' Carignan, Lodi, California, USA 2019
Winemaker: Nathan Kandler
Farming: Sustainable, Organic
Varieties: 100% Carignan
Terroir: Spenker Ranch Carignan, planted in 1900 on the west side of Lodi, is one of the oldest Carignan sites in the Golden State. These own-rooted vines are planted in Tokay Sandy Loam.
Vinification: The wines are allowed to ferment and age naturally with only a small addition of sulfur before bottling. The grapes were fermented entirely whole-cluster with a short/partial carbonic maceration.
Aging: Older French hogs-heads. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes: ‘Spenker Ranch’ Carignan is classically red fruited with savory spice and earth notes. This medium bodied expression of Caignan is expressive of the fine sandy soils from which it’s born. Full bodied, intense and bright, with a strong punch of acidity and verve on the finish.
