Winemaker: Tanner Scheer
Farming: Organic
Varieties: 100% Syrah
Terroir: The Fort Ross - Seaview AVA is home to very little Syrah as it is remote, rugged and heavily influenced by the Pacific Ocean. Planted in 2005, these vines grow in a series of Goldridge soils, primarily composed of fractured marine sandstone, weathered over millions of years. The vines are tightly space, cane pruned and farmed organically, all in an effort to showcase the terrior of the Estate Vineyard. The 2018 growing season proved to be one of the most ideal in recent memory. A period of oceanic upwelling in the bay created a pattern of cold weather that stuck with the region throughout the month of August, invoking cool & moderate temperatures that encouraged extended hang time for Syrah fruit.
Vinification: Hand harvested. Fermented in small open top tanks. Bottled without fining or filtration.
Aging: 16 months - 13% New French Oak, 87% Neutral
Tasting Notes: This wine is incredibly aromatic with notes of violet, plum, anise, black fruits, white pepper and dates.
