- Winemaker: Jeffrey Patterson
- Farming: Sustainable
- Varieties: Chardonnay (Mount Eden Clone)
- Terroir: Planted in infertile Franciscan shale, the vineyards are 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean and enjoy a cool, but sunny climate above the fog line
- Vinification: The Estate Chardonnay grapes are harvested when slightly yellow to yellow-green and are pressed without crushing. All of the juice is barrel-fermented in new and one-year-old French Burgundy barrels (65% new, 35% 1-year-old), where the wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation.
- Aging: 10 months on the lees for ten months before being lightly filtered prior to bottling. The Chardonnay is then cellared for two years before being released for sale.
- Bottled: July 2019; no fining or filtration
- Tasting Notes: Youthful in the nose, this Chardonnay has nuances of gardenia blossom, lime zest, and hazelnut. On the palate, there is beautiful restraint with a persistence of lemon, oak, and an intriguing minerality. Old World in style, this vintage is poised to age for twenty years with good cellaring.
- Total Production: 1288 Cases
- Scores: 95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous May 2022
"A wine of linear intensity, the 2018 could use a few more years in bottle to be at its best, but it is super-impressive, even now,... Lemon confit, mint, orange peel, spice and light butter notes all build into the articulate, polished finish. This is such a classy wine."
